Breaking News: Michigan State’s John Wayne Matthews III Launches “A Hope Rising Foundation” to Uplift Children with Disabilities

East Lansing, Michigan — In a move that has touched hearts across the state and beyond, Michigan State University football superstar John Wayne Matthews III has officially launched the “A Hope Rising Foundation”, a nonprofit organization committed to transforming the lives of children with disabilities throughout Michigan.

Matthews, widely recognized for his explosive talent on the field and charismatic leadership off it, is now channeling his energy into a cause deeply personal to him. The foundation aims to provide free healthcare services, access to basic necessities, and—most importantly—unconditional love and support for children facing physical and developmental challenges.

“In football, we play for victories. In life, we fight for people,” Matthews said during an emotional launch event in East Lansing on Tuesday. “These kids are warriors, and they deserve every opportunity to thrive. A Hope Rising Foundation is my way of standing beside them and saying: You matter. You are loved. And we’re in this together.”

The organization will begin its work by partnering with local hospitals, pediatric specialists, and schools to offer medical care at no cost to families who qualify. This includes therapy services, mobility aids, surgeries, mental health support, and nutritional assistance. Beyond medical care, the foundation will distribute clothing, hygiene products, school supplies, and adaptive technologies that promote inclusion and independence.

But Matthews emphasizes that the mission is about more than materials or medicine — it’s about hope. “We want to create a safe space for these kids to dream, to feel celebrated, and to believe in a future full of possibility. Every child, regardless of ability, deserves that.”

What makes this initiative even more impactful is Matthews’ deep personal commitment. Sources close to the athlete confirm that he has pledged a significant portion of his NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) earnings to fund the foundation’s startup operations, and he plans to host annual fundraising events involving fellow athletes, community leaders, and supporters.

The news has been met with an outpouring of support from across the MSU community and the greater Midwest. University officials, teammates, coaches, and even rival players have voiced admiration for Matthews’ compassion and vision.

“John isn’t just a star on the field — he’s a light in the lives of many,” said MSU head coach Marcus Bell. “His heart for kids and his drive to create change are what leadership looks like.”

As A Hope Rising Foundation begins operations, Matthews is already looking ahead, envisioning statewide outreach programs, mobile medical units, inclusive sports camps, and scholarship opportunities.

For Michigan’s most vulnerable children, this isn’t just an announcement — it’s the start of something life-changing.
