Houston Dynamo President Jessica O’Neill Inks $11.5M Netflix Deal for Epic Film Celebrating Club’s Football Legacy

HOUSTON, TEXAS — June 30, 2025

In a bold move that cements the Houston Dynamo’s place not only in Major League Soccer but in cinematic history, club president Jessica O’Neill has signed a landmark $11.5 million deal with Netflix for the production of a major feature film chronicling the rise, resilience, and renaissance of the Houston Dynamo.

More than just a documentary, the project — currently titled “Heart of the City: The Houston Dynamo Story” — is being described as a “full-throttle tribute to a football empire” that has defined grit, community, and championship ambition in American sports.

> “This is our moment,” said O’Neill in a statement released Monday. “Houston Dynamo is more than a football club — it’s a story of legacy, identity, and passion. We are thrilled to partner with Netflix to share our journey with the world.”

The film will span two decades of highs and lows — from the Dynamo’s electrifying debut in 2006 and immediate back-to-back MLS Cup titles, to the struggles of a rebuilding era, and now a stunning resurgence under the leadership of head coach Ben Olsen, who recently guided the club to multiple domestic trophies and global recognition.

What makes this deal historic isn’t just the budget — one of the largest ever allocated by Netflix for a U.S.-based sports feature — but the creative scope. The film will blend real match footage, exclusive interviews, dramatic re-enactments, and cinematic visuals to tell a story that transcends sports.

> “This is not just for Houston. This is for every underdog club that dared to dream big,” said executive producer Carla Jameson, known for her award-winning work on The Last Dance and Quarterback.

Fans can expect to see interviews with Dynamo legends, current stars, international football voices, and the passionate Houston fan base that turned the orange and black into a cultural force.

The film also promises an intimate portrayal of the transformation behind the scenes, including Jessica O’Neill’s groundbreaking leadership as one of the few female presidents in men’s professional soccer. Her role in revitalizing the club’s identity, marketing reach, and fan engagement will be a key narrative thread.

> “Jessica O’Neill’s vision has brought this club to the forefront of the league,” said ESPN analyst Sebastian Salazar. “This film will showcase how leadership off the pitch matters just as much as what happens on it.”

Production is already underway, with principal photography scheduled throughout the summer and a global release planned for Spring 2026 on Netflix in over 190 countries.

As the Dynamo continue to surge on the pitch, this cinematic tribute will ensure their legacy echoes far beyond the stadium walls. With this Netflix partnership, Houston isn’t just making soccer history — they’re making entertainment history.
