Arsenal Women are facing one of their most important periods of the season as questions continue to grow around their inconsistent form and fading Women’s Super League title hopes. After entering the campaign with huge expectations, the Gunners have struggled to find rhythm in recent weeks, leaving fans frustrated and rivals sensing weakness. However, despite the recent slump, there is still belief that Arsenal possess enough quality to revive their title challenge — if key changes are made quickly.
One of the biggest priorities for manager Jonas Eidevall must be reigniting the form of Chloe Kelly. The winger remains one of the most dangerous attacking players in the league when confident and aggressive, but her recent performances have lacked the explosiveness and creativity Arsenal desperately need. Kelly’s ability to stretch defenses, deliver dangerous crosses, and create chaos in one-on-one situations could become vital during the final stretch of the campaign. Arsenal need to get her involved earlier in matches and allow her greater attacking freedom.
Another major issue has been the lack of consistent service to star striker Alessia Russo. Russo has shown flashes of brilliance this season, but too often she has been isolated up front with limited opportunities inside the penalty area. Arsenal’s midfield must become more adventurous and direct in possession if they want to maximize the England forward’s strengths. Russo thrives on quick deliveries, intelligent movement around the box, and fast transitions — areas where Arsenal have recently struggled.
The Gunners may also need tactical adjustments to rediscover balance. At times this season, Arsenal have looked predictable in attack, relying too heavily on possession without creating meaningful chances. Introducing more vertical passing and quicker movement between the lines could make the team far more dangerous. Opposition sides have become increasingly comfortable defending against Arsenal’s slow build-up play.
Defensively, Arsenal must tighten up immediately. Injuries and inconsistency at the back have damaged their momentum throughout the campaign. Captain Leah Williamson remains a hugely important figure, both for her leadership and composure, but the team around her must become more organized under pressure. Arsenal have dropped valuable points this season through avoidable defensive mistakes and lapses in concentration.
Squad rotation could also play a huge role in reviving performances. Several players appear physically exhausted after a demanding schedule filled with domestic and European fixtures. Fresh legs and greater competition for starting places may help restore energy levels and intensity across the squad.
Perhaps most importantly, Arsenal need to rediscover belief. This is still a squad packed with international stars, experienced winners, and elite-level talent. Players like Beth Mead, Caitlin Foord, and Russo have all proven capable of deciding major matches on their own. The challenge now is turning individual quality into collective consistency.
The Women’s Super League title race remains fiercely competitive, and Arsenal know they cannot afford many more setbacks. Every game from this point forward feels crucial. If the Gunners can successfully implement these changes — revive Kelly’s confidence, create better opportunities for Russo, improve defensive stability, and increase attacking unpredictability — they may yet transform their season.
For Arsenal supporters, hope is not gone. But time is running out, and the response must come quickly if the club wants to remain genuine contenders for the Women’s Super League crown.
