Sha’Carri Richardson’s Epochal Open Letter to the Athletic Community, Fans, and the Athletic World
To the world of athletics, my amazing supporters, other athletes, coaches, officials, sponsors, and all members of the international athletic community,
I write this letter today with a heart full of humility, thankfulness, and profound respect for everyone who has shared in my journey.
I have gained more from athletics than only medals, records, titles, and triumphant moments. I now have a purpose because of it. I now have a platform thanks to it. Above all, it has given me a family that spans generations, countries, and cultures.
I was welcomed by a community that believed in the transformational power of sport as soon as I set foot on a track as a little girl with lofty goals and even greater resolve. You supported me during every race, victory, failure, and comeback.
Thank you to all of my admirers worldwide.
I appreciate your support when I was the first person to cross the finish line. I appreciate your support when things were tough. I appreciate your unshakable faith in times when uncertainty seemed to outweigh hope. I have experienced some of the most difficult and fulfilling times of my life thanks to your letters, prayers, love, and support.
Thank you to my trainers, coaches, mentors, and support personnel for seeing my potential and assisting me in realizing it. Your knowledge, selflessness, tolerance, and dedication have molded me into the woman I am today as well as the athlete I have become.
I am grateful to my fellow athletes for motivating me to pursue success. Every race has been a chance to develop, learn, and recognize the amazing talent in our sport. You’ve pushed me to become stronger, more resilient, and better.
We are grateful to the governing bodies, organizers, sponsors, and other stakeholders who continue to support athletics by providing opportunities and cultivating an atmosphere that allows athletes to pursue their dreams without boundaries. Numerous others, including myself, have benefited from your dedication to the advancement of our sport as they strive for excellence on the international scene.
It hasn’t always been a simple journey. There were times when the future was uncertain, times when there was criticism, and times when there was disappointment. Nevertheless, the sports community continued to be a source of support throughout it all. You reminded me that perseverance, development, and the bravery to keep going forward are all important components of success.
I am reminded that no accomplishment is made on one’s alone as I consider the journey that has led me to this point. Numerous hands, hearts, and voices that believed in me have supported me at every turn.
My career’s narrative is more than just my own. It’s our tale.
It is the tale of every supporter who energized a stadium, every young athlete who was inspired by my path, every coach who devoted endless hours to nurturing talent, and every person who has faith in the transformative power of sports.
I’m still determined to represent our sport with greatness, passion, and authenticity as we move to the future. I want to keep encouraging the next generation to have big dreams, put in a lot of effort, and never let setbacks dictate their future.
